Travel Medicine

Our travel doctors are experts in travel health and vaccine preventable diseases. We will help you prepare for a healthy and safe trip to any destination. As part of your pre-travel consultation our experienced staff will advise you of the vaccines or medications available to minimize specific health risks in your area of travel.

Please bring with you information on your areas of travel/itinerary, list of medications you are taking, and your vaccination or immunizaiton record. We offer a wide range of travel vaccines based on your personal situation and recommendations or requirements for the specific area of travel.  A Halal Meningitis vaccine is available at no extra charge - please advise us if you have such a requirement. Yellow Fever Vaccine is currently not available.

Unfortunately travel medicine consults are not covered by OHIP. An individual consult is $80.00+HST and a family consult is $120.00+HST ($140.00+HST if a family of 5 of greater). This price does not include vaccination costs (see below). Please submit the form and we will contact you to set up an appointment.

Vaccine Costs

Note to Patients

Cost: Please note vaccines may require more than one dose, travel medical consultation fee additional.

DIN:  For patients with medical insurance, DIN numbers provided to allow you to call your plan and to determine your coverage.  Curex will provide you with a receipt to help you claim reimbursement from your plan to the level of coverage.  It is advisable to call you insurer before your visit to know if and to what level your plan will reimburse you.

Insurance Reimbursement: Vaccine clinics do not deal with insurance or benefits providers directly.  Each patient is responsible for communicating with their insurance or benefits provider to fully understand the level of coverage.  Please note that to limit their costs insurance or benefits providers may limit your reimbursement to a certain amount which is below your percentage level of coverage.  For example, 50% or 80% coverage may actually be much less due to other limits, including overall dollar amounts under your plan or amount limits on particular vaccines.

OHIP: OHIP vaccines will be provided free of charge to patients who present a valid OHIP card during a travel medicine consultation and request such vaccines (subject to availability). Under all other circumstances such vaccines will be taken from private stocks and charged at the rate of $85/vaccine.

Other Fees and Taxes:  Curex does not charge injection fees or taxes.  We do charge for (1) Exemption Certificate service $60 (2) Completing third party documents for work, immigration, travel, or school $40.00 to $160.00 (3) Prescription Fee $20.00 (4) Replacement of Lost Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate $30.00.

Prescriptions: We do not provide prescriptions for vaccines available at Curex.  We do provide prescriptions for travel related medications not stocked or provided by Curex, such as high altitude medications, anti-malaria medications, and antibiotics.  The prescription fee is $25.  Prescription fee is waived for patients who receive travel vaccines during their travel medicine consultation.

Vaccines brought to Curex by Patients:  Due to the importance of cold chain of custody for vaccine efficacy and safety we only administer vaccines maintained in our cold chain of custody.  Curex does not administer vaccines brough in by patients as we have no way of knowing if cold chain of custody has been maintained and whether the vaccines brought in are safe or effective.

Vaccination Policy: At Curex we believe that vaccinations are an important tool to mitigate the risk realted to travel related diseases.  Travel abroad, especially to developing countries exposes Canadians to diseases and medical risks which may not be normally present in Canada.  A consultation with a travel medical professional and, where appropriate, vaccination and medication can play an important role in mitigating such travel medical risks.  Patients who choose to be vaccinated must understand that vaccination may carry a risk in itself.  It is up to the patient, based on advice from a travel medical professional, to determine the balance and to make a decision what is appropriate in their individual circumstances.
